Bainbridge High School 200 Building

Bainbridge Island School District

A new front door for the Bainbridge High School campus, the 200 Building serves as a bridge to the community. Its strong relationship to and transparency from the street celebrates the civic nature of education and reinforces connection with place. Inside, public and private functions are organized vertically around a double-height gallery that provides a dynamic forum for gathering, connection and collaboration.

Administration, library and commons unfold from this core as the building steps down a terraced slope to the west. Above, classrooms capture balanced daylight and distant vistas of downtown Seattle, and the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges. Energy efficient systems and innovative site design further support the integration of ecology, education and community on campus.
