The U.S. headquarters for Dr. Martens AirWair is an open, activated work environment that expresses the brand style of their product: industrial, durable and fun. The design transforms an old hotel with a tight 9'6" floor-to-floor height and 10' column spacing into a functional and compelling workplace. All finishes were stripped from the building. Sandblasted concrete columns provide the primary organizational element, and an industrial palette of materials expresses the client's origins as a work boot manufacturer. Arranged along the window wall, open workstations enhance team interaction and maximize access to light and views. Private offices, located along the interior, feature translucent glass doors that let natural light penetrate into the building core.
