Healthcare Design Insights furthers evidence-based healthcare design, offering practical tools and ideas to healthcare administrators, facility managers, and developers.
Evidence based design, which mirrors evidence based healthcare, is core to our design ethos at Mahlum. This means using real, quantifiable data — including lessons learned — from past and current projects to illustrate a range of approaches and inform current and future design.

This issue presents the powerful impact of daylight on each person’s circadian rhythm and overall health. Circadian rhythm is optimally regulated by daylight, but for many healthcare facilities, this is not a viable option in all areas throughout each day. By harnessing emerging tunable lighting technologies to supplement daylight, designers and facility owners gain tremendous flexibility over the color and control of lighting to better support the health and well-being of patients and staff.
The Power of Light references several examples to explore the diverse benefits of tuned lighting for patients and staff, and offers advice on how to incorporate the technology into new or renovated healthcare environments.
Insights is born of the same passion that guides Mahlum design. We're curious and love investigating the multiple factors driving a particular building system or material choice. We're passionate about sharing knowledge and experience. And we yearn to design and build better.
