Driven by a need to improve academic performance and facility conditions at Cleveland High School, this significant renovation and addition is designed to transform the comprehensive high school into four autonomous academies to revitalize learning and the community. Inside the restored landmark, innovative learning environments support smaller class sizes, accommodate future change, and foster school pride and identity. Two new campus buildings feature windows and materials that engage in a dialogue with the historic structure. In their simplified form, however, they graciously defer to the ornamented landmark. Together, they flank the historic school to define outdoor plazas and a new campus entry that reconnects Cleveland High School with the community.
