“A lot of us in the architecture community are members of the ‘look-up-club’…but I prefer the ‘look up, down, all-around club.’ Our world is diverse, colorful, inspiring, and full of little lessons if we just look and listen close enough.”
Katie’s focus on environmental justice results in a dedication to sustainability, development of embodied carbon strategies, and a commitment to the communities she works in. Since joining Mahlum in 2016, Katie has been involved in a variety of projects and she directly contributes to Mahlum’s commitment to achieve carbon neutral buildings by the year 2030. She leads Mahlum’s Embodied Carbon Strategy Workshops and organizes Mahlum’s Project Sustainability Leads meetings. She also helped create a tool kit that design teams use to reduce their projects’ environmental impacts. Outside of Mahlum, she is a member and co-lead of the Carbon Leadership Forum Portland Hub.
Katie holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Ball State University. She is a registered architect in Oregon and a LEED Accredited Professional.
